Navagio Beach, Zakynthos, Greece
Located on the Greek Island Zakynthos, Navagio Beach or Shipwreck beach is hidden in a secluded cove and can only be reached by boat or seen from the clifftops. Navagio Beach became a ship graveyard when the MV Panagiotis washed up in October 1980 due to stormy weather and bad visibility. The ship was abandoned but has now been one of the reasons for Navagio Beach becoming the most photographed and visited beaches in all of Greece.
Elafonisi Beach, famous for its unique pink sand and pastel colours has been voted many times as one of the most majestic beaches not only in Europe and the world. It’s pink sands can attract up to 2500 tourists a day in the peak seasons of July and August. Located in Western Crete, Elafonisi is a small island which not only features this hidden beauty but is also home to many rare species of animals, black rocks, exotic plants and dunes.
Sveti Stefan, Montenegro
Strictly off-limits to anyone not staying at the 5* Aman resort, the north side of Sveti Stefan is one of the most photographed beaches in Montenegro. The exclusive resort is priced from around €800 per night and it costs around €80 per person to hire a sunlounger. The left side of the beach is free and sunloungers can be hired starting from €15 for two loungers. The main difference between the two sides is that the beach belonging to the hotel has less tourists.
Zlatni Rat Beach, Croatia
Zlatni Rat Beach is a unique pebble beach located on Brac Island. Best known as one of the most beautiful beaches on the Croatian coastline, it has to no surprise been named #3 of the best beach destinations in all of Europe. The beach extends 500 metres out into the Adriatic sea and the shape of it is always changing due to the wind and water current. Also known as Golden cape or Golden horn, Zlatni Rat Beach is perfect for families and a top destination for wind and kite surfers.
Cape Greco, Cyprus
Located in Ayia Napa, Cape Greco has been a National Forest Park since 1993 and is an great spot for hikers and divers. The underwater caves and rocky seabeds are perfect for swimmers and scuba divers wanting to explore the sealife. The clifftops provide a great hiking trial and are all signposted, highlighting facts about the park and directions. There is also 4 kilometres of bicycle tracks and a picnic area.
Tropea Beach, Calabria, Italy
Situated in a clifftop town, Tropea Beach or ‘the ‘Coast of the Gods’ offers powdery white sands and a medieval church perched on the rocky cliffs. The monastery dates back to the 4th century AD and has been rebuilt many times, most recently in the 18th century after it was damaged by an earthquake. After a relaxing day on the beach why not challenge yourself to climbing up a series of steps carved into the rock to reach the church itself! Access to the church is completely free, but the museum and garden costs €2.
