Make the most of the white sandy beaches and uninterrupted sunshine all year round. Cape Verde benefits from average temperatures of between 24°C and 30°C with very low chance of rain making it an ideal destination for a tropical getaway. However, similar to the Canary Islands, the heat won’t feel overpowering as the islands welcome a slight breeze making it feel a little cooler than it actually is. For water sports enthusiasts there are higher winds between November and March making the waves a lot larger on some of the islands.
Dive into the unknown and discover dishes unlike those at home. The number one traditional dish in Cape Verde is Cachupa – a slow cooked stew made with beans, corn, potato and pork. The dish was formed from the ‘leftovers’ being used altogether in one big stew. Most Cape Verdean families traditionally have Cachupa on Saturday night and the leftovers of the dish the next morning re-fried and served with eggs. Other popular dishes include Cuscuz, Kavala, Goats Cheese and Morea.
All 10 islands offer something different so a day or two of island hopping can be a great way to see the most of Cape Verde from all perspectives. Otherwise known as the “African Caribbean”, Cape Verde has breathtaking beaches with wonderful warm waters, perfect for a soaking up the beautiful coastline. Or if you’re looking for a more adventurous escape, the island is ideal for those into water sports or adrenaline seekers. Strong winds have made it a renowned location for all kinds of surfing and it’s rocky surroundings offer a playground for hikers and off-road activities. Quad biking is very popular throughout the whole island and can usually be booked through your hotel.
